20,000 Trucks produced at Daimler Trucks in India

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles crossed yesterday the new milestone of 20,000th BharatBenz and FUSO trucks from its plant located in Chennai, South-West India.

In 2014, about half of the 20,000 vehicles have been locally manufactured, thus highlighting the recent growth of the production site.

According to Erich Nesselhauf, CEO and Managing Direct at Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, crossing the production mark of 20,000 trucks, DICV achieved a new milestone from their success story.  “We have transformed the Indian truck industry with our modern trucks. That’s confirmed by our customers and proven by a high acceptance in the market due to excellent Quality of our products as well as best Sales and After Sales experiences.”

The plant in Chennai produces trucks and engines of the three brands Mercedes-Benz, BharatBenz and FUSO. Since the production started in June 2012, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles raised the total production volume each month. The product portfolio included in the last months several variants of heavy duty trucks and also medium-duty trucks in the last months. BharatBenz offers now vehicles from 9t up to 49t.

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles added from May 2013 the production of FUSO trucks to its portfolio and under the umbrella of Daimler Trucks Asia, the company works closely together with Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, Diamler subsidiary from Japan.

Furthermore, BharatBenz and Mercedes-Benz Buses will roll off at the new bus manufacturing plant. The bus plant is spread across an area of 113,000 square meters and will be completed in the second quarter of 2015, with an investment of 50 million euro and a total capacity of 1,500 units in the initial phase. This capacity can be expanded up to 4,000 units, making the DICV plant the only Daimler Truck plant worldwide that manufactures three brands of trucks and buses.
