Remember our last article about this Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing that was found in Cuba, under the banana tree? Well, it seems that Piotr Degler wasn’t the first photographer to discover a Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing in Cuba.

Photographer and writer Miguel Llorente started a journey in Cuba to find the 300SL in 2012 and guess what, he succeded! The photographer had heard about this legend after reading about it on Caristas and in the book Automobiles Lost & Found written by Michael E Ware. After finding the rumored Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, he also came across the Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster, a car that was featured on Jeremy Clarkson’s Motorworld in 1996.

The man in possession of the cars, referred to by Llorente as ‘Marcos’, also had a few other a classic cars, including a Fiat-Abarth 750 Zagato, Hispano-Suiza racecar, and a rare Chrysler Special Coupe.

From Miguel Llorente’s photos we can see that the 300SL Gullwing is already impossible to restore. The body is covered in rust and it even bows upwards at each end. Concerning the 300SL Roadster, it may be something there to save, because the car was used throughout the 1980s and it was abandoned sometime in the 1990s.

After all, Llorente described his journey of finding these cars as “one of the most rewarding experiences of my entire life” and it’s easy to see why. You don’t always come across two unrestored Mercedes-Benz classic cars.
