The wait is excruciating! And Mercedes-Benz is only making it worse. They have just released a teasing image of what will be the autonomous driving concept, on their profile on a social network. The only data we get is their prediction: “The future will be bolder than you’ve ever imagined.” And we get the #mbCES hashtag, confirming the concept will be displayed at the 2015 CES.

The photo is completely dark, so the very unconventional silhouette leaves much to imagination. A highly aerodynamic design, a low reclined roofline and an egg-shaped futuristic silhouette. It’s not much, but it’s enough to make the wait even harder, before Mercedes-Benz will showcase the driving concept at the upcoming 2015 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, next week. The long awaited moment is scheduled to happen on the 5th of January and the Daimler Chairman, Dr. Dieter Zetsche will take center stage for the event at the CES.

The mystery car, looking like a giant PC mouse, has been spotted testing in the beginning of the past December, all covered up. Click here to find out more about it!

And Mercedes-Benz has already publicly displayed the interior of its self-driving concept, during TecDay “Autonomous Mobility” event.

The silhouette shown in the mysterious dim light photo will be covered in cameras and sensors, that will identify obstacles, cars, pedestrians, lane lines, parking spots, traffic lights, detecting just about everything ahead and around.

When it comes to mechanics, the Mercedes-Benz engineers’ lips are sealed. But they have already worked pretty hard, when it comes to autonomous driving. It is worth mentioning the Mercedes-Benz S 500 Intelligent Drive, that has been also testing in California recently. But it made history in 2013, when it drove about 100 kilometers from Manheim to Pforzheim, through intercity roads and urban traffic. The S Intelligent Drive retraced the legendary route of Bertha Benz, the wife of Karl Benz, exactly 125 years after it happened.

Remember: 5th of January, Las Vegas, 8p.m. local time. The final countdown has begun!

Update: Here is a bonus! Mercedes-Benz is generously showing a bit more:
