Picture this! You are driving along a coastal road, with the Mediterranean Sea on your right and with the wind in your hair. What car is it that you’re driving? Would a 1970s Pagoda SL be all right? Good, now that we’ve got that settled, stop dreaming about it and make it real.

Mercedes-Benz and the Munich-based specialist tour operator Nostalgic are now offering self-drive tours in the classic Mercedes-Benz SL. The action is part of the Daimler Business Innovation program “Classic Car Travel”.  Ten SL models built between 1963 and 1989, the W 113 and the R 107 model series, will be at the disposal of those who join the new travel program. They will also have the possibility to change vehicles during the tour, so that they can enjoy driving various models with different engine variants.

Classic Car Travel“With ‘Classic Car Travel’ you can now enjoy the experience of driving a classic car along some of Europe’s dream routes without actually owning your own classic”, explained project manager Thomas Eisenbarth of Daimler Business Innovation.

The “Nostalgic” tour operator has experience in such tours. They have been running them for over 12 years and now they have teamed up with Mercedes-Benz to help customers benefit from the class of the classic Benz models.

“We have carefully selected routes that are a little off the beaten track and that showcase some stunning scenery. And the accommodation, restaurants and sightseeing opportunities all combine to provide our guests with an authentic experience of the region”, says Gert Pichler, one of the two founders of Nostalgic GmbH.

Such an experience comes for a price, so those who are interested in such holidays must pay 1975 euros if they share a double room. The fee includes transfer to and from the airport, a Mercedes-Benz SL classic car, with fully comprehensive and passenger insurance and fuel, accommodation and breakfast at the hotel, admission and guided visits, a tour guide and service team, a roadbook and a welcome gift. The first tours are set to start in France and Italy.
