It looks like the life cycle of the Mercedes-AMG GT will end in December. The successor will come but is not clear yet if it will exist also a roadster version.

At its launch in September 2014, the Mercedes-AMG GT had the honorable task of carrying on the legend of Mercedes supersport cars starting with the Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing and continuing with the Mercedes SLR McLaren and SLS AMG. Now, after more than 7 years, his life cycle seems to be coming to an end. Some sources mention that the last orders could have been placed earlier this month.

Not much is known about the successor to the AMG GT, but it will receive a new generation. This was confirmed last year by former AMG chief Tobias Moers.

The company will replace the Mercedes-AMG GT

Mercedes has developed a new MSA (Modular Sports Architecture) platform that underlies the new Mercedes-AMG SL. It will be the first SL developed by AMG. This platform will also be used for the future AMG GT. It is not yet known if the future AMG GT will have only a coupe version or if there will be also a roadster version.

The new Mercedes-AMG SL will have a canvas roof, a 2 + 2-seater configuration and will be available as a convertible. Theoretically, there would be a small niche for the AMG GT convertible to offer a configuration with only 2 seats.

The latest version of the Mercedes-AMG GT was the fabulous Black Series which holds the record for the fastest production car on the Nurburgring circuit with 6: 48.05 minutes. In the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, the 4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine delivers 720 HP and 800 Nm.

Although the Mercedes-AMG SL has a new lighter aluminum structure and will be more sporty, it will retain its luxurious character and above it there is enough room for a supersport car in the shape of a second generation Mercedes-AMG GT.
