Finding a parking spot in the city, what a headache. But a bike… well, that can fit just about anywhere. With our cities constantly evolving and changing, getting upgraded (or downgraded?) to two wheels would also be a way out of the traffic jam. Pedals and an electric motor are all you need.
As shocking as it may seem, studies show that we spend six whole months of our lives in traffic jams. But what if we move from the fast lane, that is only waiting for the cars in front to move inch by inch, into the bike lane?
Mercedes-Benz smart came up with the smart ebike. To make sure everything sets in place, smart got in touch with BionX for the drive system and demanded help from the famous German designer Kalle Nicolai, to create an iconic frame. So this is how the smart ebike, with a futuristic, yet simple design, saw the light of day.
Even though it is not the lightest bike out there, as it comes with all its 57.5 lbs (26.08 kg), it manages to keep the battery weight low: 7.3 lbs (3.31 kg).
100 kilometers is the limit with one battery charge. The full charging process takes 5 hours. the bike comes with an intelligent and efficient energy recovery system while braking. And this time, getting your pants ripped off or dirty due to the bike chain is out the question, as it features a carbon belt instead.
If you are in a hurry, you must know that the top speed of the smart ebike reaches 20 mph (32.19 km/h) and also a smart phone integration. You can check your cruise speed, the calories you burn, the distance to your office and back home, as connectivity is one of the main concerns of the smart brand.
And maybe you never knew, but the famous Brabus tuning company has also altered the smart ebike. The Smart Brabus comes with a 500watt motor and 25mph (40 km/h) top speed.
All these features (without the tuning) don’t come cheap and you’ll have to pay as much as for a small second hand car. Available in the U.S., Canada and Europe, the smart bike is sold for $3 299. The Brabus one costs $5 000.
