Mercedes-AMG has just pulled the curtain off its brand-new C 63 S E Performance. The high-performance model will be available in both sedan and estate body styles.

Meet the all-new Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance, ladies and gentlemen. It is the car that Mercedes sends into the world to make BMW’s M3 and Audi’s RS 4 Avant freak out. What are the aces up its sleeve? The model comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine as part of a plug-in hybrid system, that brings along a total output of 680 PS (671 HP) and 1,020 Nm (752 lb-ft) of torque. The four-cylinder develops 476 PS (470 HP) and 545 Nm on its own.  This makes it the world’s most powerful series-production four-cylinder engine.

A rear-mounted electric motor with 204 PS and 320 Nm of torque and a 6.1-kWh battery assist the ICE unit. The battery brings along only 13 kilometers (8 miles) of electric range at speeds below 125 km/h (78 mph).

Resources end up to all four wheels via a 9-speed multi-clutch AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G transmission and the company’s 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. The Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance flashes its way from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.4 seconds. The needle of the speedometer stops at 250 km/h or 280 km/h (270 km/h for the Estate) when the owner ticks the AMG Driver’s Package box. Rear-axle steering and Drift mode are also part of the plan.

But the PHEV setup makes it quite a heavy car for the segment. The new C 63 tips the scale at 2,111 kilograms/4,653 pounds (2,145 kilograms/4,729 pounds for the estate version).

Long gone is the V8, and with the new figures the C 63 comes with, the segment enthusiasts might not even miss it that much.

Design-wise, Mercedes-AMG worked on building a car with more muscular proportions. And it is immediately visible if you park the C 63 next to the standard version. The front end is 50 millimeters longer and the front wings are wider, while the car is 83 millimeters longer. Furthermore, the wheelbase ended up with extra 10 millimeters, while the track at the front is 76 millimeters wider.

A slim air outlet shows up on the hood, right between the powerdomes, for that special drama factor. And for the very first time on a Mercedes-AMG production model, a round badge with a black AMG emblem with laurel wreath shows up on the hood.  The “E PERFORMANCE” badge on the wings is a hint to the hybrid drive that sets the car in motion. Mercedes-AMG fitted it with 19-inch AMG light-alloy wheels with mixed tires as standard. Customers can also go for 20-inch wheels.  The AMG matt paint finish graphite grey magno is available exclusively for the C 63 S.

The cabin hosts AMG sports seats with special upholstery layout and a distinctive stitching pattern. The future owners can choose from a series of exclusive colors and nappa upholsteries. The driver of the C 63 S E Performance will be getting a second-generation AMG Performance seat for extra money and the MBUX infotainment system with various AMG- and hybrid-specific displays and functions. They will also get their hands on a new two-spoke AMG steering wheel, which sports buttons that allow them to control the regeneration levels of the hybrid drive.

The one behind that wheel has eight driving programs to choose from the AMG Dynamic Select menu: “Electric”, “Comfort”, “Battery Hold”, “Sport”, “Sport+”, “RACE”, “Slippery” and “Individual”
