Mercedes continues the strategy started with other AMG models of offering performance models equipped with PHEV powertrains. The Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4Matic+ features a PHEV system that develops 585 PS.
AMG is committed to the strategy of offering PHEV-equipped performance models. This is the case with the Mercedes-AMG S 63 S E Performance, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance, or the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid 4Matic+.
The new Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4Matic+ takes over the powertrain from the recently launched Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid 4Matic+. A 3-liter turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine developing 449 PS and an electric motor delivering 120 kW (136 PS) and 480 Nm located between the combustion engine and the AMG Speedshift TCT 9G automatic transmission develop a total of 585 PS (612 PS with Race Start) and 750 Nm and propel the sports limousine from 0 to 100 kph in just 3.8 seconds (with Race Start, part of the AMG Dynamic Plus package). The former AMG E 63 with classical bi-turbo 4 liter V8 accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in 3.4 seconds. The top speed is limited to 280 kph with the AMG Driver package, while the top speed in pure electric mode is 140 kph.
The inline 6-cylinder engine has a new twin-scroll exhaust gas turbocharger with higher boost pressure (1.5 bar instead of the previous 1.1 bar). The update also includes newly programmed software, an additional front cooler, and a wheel arch cooler. Thus, the maximum output has increased from 435 PS to 449 PS.
The Li-Ion battery is mounted under the boot floor and has a capacity of 28.6 kWh gross (21.22 kWh net), giving an electric range of over 100 km. The battery is standard charged at AC stations up to 11 kW, and optional charging at DC stations up to 60 kW is available, allowing charging from 10 to 80% in just 20 minutes.
As with other Mercedes PHEV models, the driver can select multiple degrees of energy recuperation from the paddles behind the steering wheel. In D Auto, the system automatically selects the level of recuperation power depending on the traffic situation, and in D -, the driver experiences the “one-pedal feeling”.
Electrically adjustable AMG sports seats are on board as standard. The upholstery is covered in ARTICO man-made leather/MICROCUT microfibre with red contrasting topstitching and features a unique AMG seat graphic. The electrically adjustable AMG performance seats can be ordered as an option. The basic equipment includes the AMG performance steering wheel in Nappa leather with AMG steering wheel buttons.
The Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4Matic+ comes standard with all-wheel drive, and integral steering (the rear wheels turn in opposite directions to the rear wheels at an angle of 2.5 degrees up to 100 kph and 0.7 degrees in the same direction above 100 kph), and AMG Ride Control adaptive suspension, with the front axle having a wider track than the standard Mercedes E-Class. An electronically controlled rear axle locking differential is included in the AMG Dynamic Plus package. The sports limousine is fitted with 19-inch wheels as standard, with optional 20-inch light alloy or 21-inch forged wheels available.
In addition to Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Smoothness, and Individual modes, the driver can select two specific programs, Electric and Battery Hold.
The new E 53 HYBRID 4MATIC+ can be ordered as an exclusive “Edition 1” in the exterior colors Manufaktur alpine grey uni or Manufaktur opaline white magno, 21-inch forged wheels, AMG Exterior Night Package I and II for one year from market launch.
