Mercedes-AMG F1 Safety and Medical Car display the spectacular red livery this season as well. The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series will set the pace whenever deployed on the race track. Meanwhile, the Mercedes-AMG GT will get involved whenever a health situation requires its presence.
Replacing last season’s GT R, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Safety Car features several visual and equipment mods compared to the stock version. The first to spot is the small dimmable LED light units instead of the usual light bar on the roof, in order to improve aerodynamics.
But no power upgrade is necessary. It comes with the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that develops 730 PS. The car flashes on the racetrack from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.2 seconds and hits a top speed of 325 km/h (202 mph).
It sports the standard ceramic brakes and there are bucket seats with six-point harnesses onboard. Two extra screens provide the necessary track information. One of them shows the race streaming, while the other displays the position of the drivers on a graphic.
Once again, as every season since 2000, Bernd Maylander will be behind the steering wheel of the Safety Car. Through all these years, he missed a single Formula 1 race, due to a leg injury.
“It really is a major step compared to last year’s GT R – which was already at an extremely high level. To have a workplace like this in the name of safety is a dream come true,” Maylander says.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ retires the C 63 S Estate
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+ replaces the C 63 S Estate of last season. FIA decided to equip it with the optional Aerodynamic Package. The three doctors on board will count on a defibrillator, a rescue cutter, a breathing apparatus, and two fire extinguishers.
They will be working along with the Aston Martin Vantage Safety Car and DBX Medical Car. The British model will actually hit the track in the season opener, the Bahrain Grand Prix, on March 28.
The AMGs will make their debut this month in the Bahrain Grand Prix.
