This is a recall that might not bother the owners after all! Mercedes is calling back the Mercedes-AMG G65 models because they drive too fast in reverse. The 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 lacks the right software for the limitation of the reverse speed.

To keep the car from speeding backwards, the premium car maker needs to install a device that sets an electronic limitation. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports: “These vehicles may be equipped with the incorrect reverse speed limitation software. While in reverse, any abrupt changes in steering while exceeding 16 mph may cause the vehicle to become unstable.”

Therefore, Mercedes needs to make a recall to update the engine control software. The procedure affects all of the 20 vehicles sold in the United States of America.

Mercedes-AMG G 65 Final Edition: Swan song for the G-Class

The Mercedes-AMG G65 is a beast as can be. It is powered by a 6.0-liter V12, that churns out 621 horsepower and 991 Nm of torque, sent to all wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission. The boxy SUV rockets from a standstill to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 5.1 seconds. The monster-G weighs no less than 6,250 pounds (2,835 kilograms), which is approximately half a ton more than its’ slender sibling, the new G63.

In the United States, the starting price of the G65 is of $222,700, a price territory where only SUVs such as the Bentley Bentayga and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan dared to go. The new G though will dismiss the V12, reserved exclusively for the Maybach models from now on.
