Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door production moved from Sindelfingen to Valmet, in Finland

On 5 October 2023, Valmet Automotive started series production of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door facelift at its plant in Uusikaupunki, Finland.

Valmet Automotive has been cooperating with Mercedes in vehicle production for ten years. Valmet has produced more than 750,000 Mercedes units, among the most important being the Mercedes GLC since 2013. Valmet also builds batteries for Mercedes, the German manufacturer being one of Valmet’s most important customers in the Roof & Kinematics sector.

Mercedes decided to move production of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door from Sindelfingen to Valmet because there was no longer enough production capacity in Sindelfingen. Valmet will produce both the conventionally powered versions of the AMG GT 4-door and the top-of-the-range PHEV, but it was not disclosed how many units will be produced in Finland.

For the production of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door, Valmet has upgraded the paint shop used for the production of the Mercedes GLC and built a completely new assembly line.

Discreet facelift
The facelift of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door is very discreet. The lower air intake in the front apron is wider, and there are two small air intakes on the left and right that guide the airflow behind the wheels. An electric sunroof and a wireless charging cradle for smartphone between the rear seats are standard.

The MBUX multimedia system has been upgraded and the displays redesigned. The optional Burmester audio system is available for 5,926 euro and features Dolby Atmos. The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door also gets a new exterior color called opalite white metallic.

The engine line-up remains unchanged: AMG GT 43 4Matic+ and AMG GT 53 4Matic+ with 3-liter inline 6-cylinder and 48V mild hybrid system with integrated 22 PS starter generator, developing 367 PS and 435 PS, respectively, and the top PHEV version with P3 hybrid system, AMG GT 63 S E Performance, with 4-liter V8 engine and 639 PS combined with a 204 PS electric motor driving the rear axle for a total of 843 PS and 1470 Nm.

The base version, Mercedes-AMG GT 43 4Matic+, starts at 110,735.45 euro, the Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4Matic+ costs 127,692.95 euro, while the high-end model, Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Peformance, which is also the best-selling, has a starting price of 207,708.55 euro.
