A terrible crash took place at the Nurburgring! A Mercedes-AMG GT rolled over seven times after having hit the sidewall in a driver’s attempt of performing a fast lap.
The driver lost control of the car when he was driving at approximately 185 km/h. The microphones onboard captured the short conversation between him and his co-driver and it turned out that both of them were all right.
They walked out of the wrack themselves, even though the roof of the sports car, their helmets and headsets were seriously deteriorated. And so were the windshield and the rollcage of the car, which apparently protected them from being injured. The car is a write-off and the best it could do is to become a part-doner.
Introduced in the summer of 2016, the Mercedes-AMG GT R is powered by a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo engine that delivers 585 PS and a peak torque of 7,000 Nm between 1,900 and 5,500 rpm.
“It looks and it drives like hell”, said the Head of AMG, Tobias Moers, at the live presentation in Silverstone, in the company of the Formula 1 World Champion, Lewis Hamilton. Developed in the “Green Hell” of Nurburgring, the Mercedes-AMG GT R is after all the street legal variant of the GT3 racing car.
