Convertibles have always been an ace up the sleeve for Mercedes-Benz, whether we’re talking about the elegant 300SL Roadster or the current sleek Mercedes-Benz SL. That’s why every enthusiast will (or should) remember the 1993 Mercedes-Benz SL600.

The 1990 Mercedes SL base model was the 228 hp straight-6 300SL version in the United States. In Europe, the base model 300SL delivered 190 hp from an 3.0-liter inline six with 12 valves. However, Mercedes-Benz always wanted more and in 1993 the company introduced the 600SL, re-badged as the SL600 in 1994.

Why are you reading this? Because Harry Metcalfe, former Evo editor, owns a Mercedes-Benz SL600 and wants to world to know it. Evaluated at around £100.000 when new, the SL was a state-of-the-art car regarding the technology package it offered back in the 1990s. For example, even the rearview mirror was electrically adjustable, but as the owner confesses, the good-looking Mercedes showed a good reliability in the past 20 years.

Performance-wise, the cabriolet is powered by a 6.0-liter V12 well hidden under the long, discrete hood. The powerhouse delivers a staggering 389 hp, making the SL600 a cabrio superstar of its time.

However, it’s better if we leave the actual owner talk about the car he loves and drives. Without further comment, we give you Harry Metcalfe and his 1993 Mercedes-Benz SL600.
