Mercedes-Benz USA has just revealed the Mercedes-Benz G-Class Edition 550. It is a U.S.-only version of the iconic off-roader. Only 200 such units will roll off the assembly line.

U.S. customers will be able to order one of the 200 in Jupiter Red, Arabian Grey or Moonlight White. The latter is the latest shade in the Manufaktur range. No word on pricing yet, but no Manufaktur option comes cheap. The G-Class Edition 550 sports contrasting gloss black radiator grille, front and rear bumpers, fender flares and wheels.

Mercedes-Benz has also fitted black badging on the exterior, so this edition becomes instantly recognizable.

The special limited edition will also come with an interior that will indicate its exclusivity. The premium carmaker put Nappa leather with diamond stitching on the multicontour seats and there is carbon fiber trim on the dashboard. The passenger grab handle reads “1 of 200 Edition 550”.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class Edition 550 comes with a V8 engine

Mercedes-Benz USA makes no specific mention of what is under the hood. But there is no need to, since there is the “550” indicative. Therefore it should go for the G 550 engine. It is the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with 422 PS (416 HP) and 610 Nm (450 lb-ft) of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system channel the resources to both axles. This is how the Mercedes-Benz G-Class Edition 550 goes from zero to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 5.6 seconds. The top speed is 210 km/h (approximately 130 mph).

You expected it to be faster? Well, then you should go for the Mercedes-AMG G 63. And keep in mind we’re dealing with a vehicle that tips the scale at 3,175 kilograms (7,000 lbs).

For those that became interested just by browsing through the photo gallery, pricing will be available closer to the market launch. The standard Mercedes-Benz G 550 starts at a little above $156,000. If you would rather go for something else, then there is Mansory’s G 63 in China Blue.
