Mercedes has launched the basic version of EQS equipped with a smaller battery of 90.5 kWh. Mercedes EQS 350 with a 292 HP engine at the rear axle costs 97,806.10 euros and has a range of 626 km.
Since the launch of the Mercedes EQS this summer, Mercedes has announced that EQS will have two versions of batteries: the large one, with a capacity of 107.8 kWh and a smaller one, of 90.5 kWh.
The large battery models are EQS 450+, EQS 580 4Matic + and AMG EQS 53 4Matic +, the + sign meaning that these models have high capacity batteries.
Now Mercedes is launching the cheapest EQS. The Mercedes EQS 350 (without +) has a single engine at the rear axle with 292 HP (identical to the EQE 350) and a smaller Li-Ion battery of 90.5 kWh.
Thanks to the smaller battery, the Mercedes EQS 350 weighs 2,390 kg, 90 kg less than the EQS 450+. But a smaller battery means less range.
Mercedes EQS 350 has a WLTP range of 626 km compared to 766 at EQS 450+.
Also, the battery of the Mercedes EQS 350 is charged with a maximum of 170 kW compared to 200 kW at EQS 450+ so the charging time from 10 to 80% is similar for both models: 31 minutes for EQS 450+ and 32 minutes for EQS 350.
If the range difference of 140 km only partially justifies the price difference of almost 10,000 euros, the difference in performance is not justified by the higher price of the EQS 450+ because in both models the maximum speed is 210 km/h and the 0-100 km/h acceleration of EQS 350 is achieved in 6.6 sec with only 0.4 sec slower than at EQS 450+.
