November 2015: BMW and Mercedes sales head to head

BMW remains no. 1 premium carmaker, but Mercedes has the highest growth rate. In November 2015, Mercedes sales were less than 6,000 units behind.

It is like the champions’ race: BMW is still the no. 1 premium carmaker, but Mercedes has the best growth rate in the premium segment.

In November 2015, Mercedes sales have grown with 7.40%, while the BMW rate was of 5.60%. In the first 11 months of 2015, Mercedes sold with 13.90% more cars than in the same period of 2014, while the BMW sales have increased with only 5.8%.

If we look at the figures, BMW sold 1,728,553 cars in the first 11  months of 2015, with 35,000 cars more than Mercedes. Audi is in the third place with 50,000 cars less sold in the same period.

November 2015 was the best selling November for Mercedes-Benz so far and the SUVs and the compact cars registered the highest demand, with more than 50,000 units of each of those two vehicle types.

In Europe, units sales in November rose to a record of 67,500 vehicles sold (10.5%). 726,606 vehicles were sold in the first 11 months, which represents another record. In the NAFTA region, 354,286 cars were sold in the first 11 months, which means a plus of 5.6% compared with the same period of 2014.

In the Asia/Pacific region, sales reached a new record of 55,725 units in November (+24.7%), while in the first 11 months,  553,639 vehicles (+25.6%) were sold.

The demand for the compact range is as high as ever. In November, 51,416 units were handed over to customers (+21.2%) – a new record.

The SUVs from Mercedes set a new record in November with 52,155 vehicles sold (+26.4%). The bestsellers were the GLA and the GLC. 465,338 SUVs were sold in the first 11 months from 2015 (25.5%), a figure that breaks another record.

BMW sold 1,728,553 units in the first 11 months, an increase of 5.8% in the same period last year. Together with the MINI brand, BMW is the first premium carmaker to surpass the 2 million unit limit in the first 11 months of the year. BMW and MINI sold 2,033,948 units (+6.9%) in the first 11 months of 2011, of which 302,091 units were MINIs.

November was a record month  for BMW as well, with 197,480 vehicles sold (+4.9%), of which 29,271 were MINIs and 167,853 were BMWs.

The highest growth rate were registered by the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (+55.8%, 6,088 units sold) and BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe (+36.7%, 5,997 units sold). BMW i sales have reached 25,000 units in the whole world.

The SUV sales are also going well with 14,115 BMW X3 and 4,209 BMW X6.

Despite the VW Dieselgate scandal, Audi keeps up with the others, with around 147,750 cars delivered in November (+1%). In Europe, Audi increased sales by 6% to around 62,300 units, despite the model changeover for the bestseller Audi A4.

The total sales in the first 11 months of 2011 were up to 1.64 million cars (+3.4%). 742,300 units were sold in Europe (+4%).
