Mercedes EQB, the electric alternative to the Mercedes GLB debuts with the EQB 300 4Matic and EQB 350 4Matic versions with a seven-seater option.

Mercedes EQB is the sixth Mercedes electric model after the EQC, EQV, EQA, EQS and EQE. The EQB debuts with top versions, both with two motors and electrical all-wheel drive. EQB 300 4Matic develops 168 kW and 390 Nm and EQB 350 4Matic sports 215 kW and 520 Nm.

The motors are powered by the same battery from Mercedes EQA which has a net capacity of 66.5 kWh. The battery that has a voltage of 420V can be charged to AC stations with up to 11 kW in 5:45 hours and to DC stations with up to 100 kW from 10 to 80% in only 32 minutes.

Both versions offer a WLTP range of 419 km, just slightly less than the 430 km offered by EQA. Energy consumption according to NEDC standards is 17.6 kWh / 100 km compared to 16.2 kWh/100 km at EQA.
Compared to EQA, the Mercedes EQB is only 70 kg heavier, with a curb weight of 2175 kg.

Like the EQA, the Mercedes EQB is not based on a dedicated electric platform but on the conventional MFAII platform from GLA and GLB.

Sliding rear bench

Mercedes EQB has a wheelbase of 2829 mm, 100 mm larger than the GLA. With 4684 mm length, 1834 mm width and 1667 mm height, the EQB is 221 mm longer and 47 mm higher than GLA.

Also, the trunk volume between 495 and 1710 liters (465-1620 liters for the 7-seater version) is much bigger than the EQA (340-1320 liters).

The rear seat backrest can be adjusted to several angles and the rear bench slides back and forth 140 mm, a feature that is not available at EQA. Optionally, you can order two individual seats in the third row. They can accommodate people up to 1.65 meters tall.

Navigation with electric Intelligence

Like EQA, Mercedes EQB has a navigation system with Electric Intelligence. As the name suggests, it takes into account numerous factors such as charging stops, and can even react dynamically to changes, for example to traffic hold-ups.

Route calculation takes into account the electric range, the current electrical consumption, the topography of the proposed route (due to the energy requirement) and the temperatures along the way (due to the duration of the charge). Further factors include the traffic situation along the planned route, as well as the available charging stations to be found there and their capacity.

If the range is not enough, the active range monitoring system will give the advice to cut air conditioning or to switch to ECO mode. The ECO mode will calculate the efficient driving speed and if Distronic is activated this speed will be set automatically.

Route planning can be undertaken in advance in the Mercedes me App.

As with other Mercedes models, the driver can choose several degrees of recuperation with the help of the paddles behind the wheel: D-Auto in which the recuperation works automatically through the ECO Assist system, D + (gliding), D (weak recuperation) and D- ( medium recuperation).

Mercedes EQB is equipped as standard with a classic suspension with steel springs and all versions have a standard multilink rear suspension. Optionally you can order adaptive suspension.

Also, both versions have the Torque Shift system launched on EQS which allows the variation of the torque distribution between the front and rear axles 100 times per second.
In case the road is perfectly dry and at low loads only the rear synchronous motor works, thus saving battery energy.

Mercedes EQB will be produced at the Mercedes plant from Kecskemet, Hungary, while the versions for China will be produced at Beijing.
