Since the beginning of the year Mercedes-Benz has sold 1,032,410 vehicles, an increase by 12,3%. Only In August 118,887 units were sold which represent a plus of 9.7% in compare with previous August.
With 118,887 units, the company sold last month more vehicles than in any previous August and if this continues, 2014 will be another record year for Mercedes. Thus, the Sttutgart-based luxury car maker has topped the one million mark in unit sales one month earlier than in the previous year.
Regarding the European market, Mercedes-Benz sold 45,661 cars last month (+4.8% increase). With 20,057 units sold in August and a market share of 9.0%, Mercedes is the market leader in Germany in the premium segment.
For the NAFTA region, the company posted growth with 9.4% sales increase at a total of 30,520 units. 27,078 vehicles were sold in USA, the biggest sales market from NAFTA region, mainly due to the successful launch of the new C-Class.

Sales in the Asia/Pacific region showed growth as well. 21,398 Chinese customers bought Mercedes-Benz vehicles, an increase with 18,3% that sets new sales record with a total of 178,241 units for the first 8 months of the year. In Japan, the premium manufacturer maintains its position as market leader among the importers with 4,628 sales. On the other hand, sales in South Korea shot up by 60,6% to a new all-time record.
The compact four-door coupe, the CLA celebrated its anniversary and since the market launch in Europe in April 2013, Mercedes-Benz has sold more than 100,000 CLA vehicles to customers from all over the world. Moreover, the CLA is a huge success especially in the most important market for the company, the United States. According to Mercedes-Benz officials, every fourth vehicle of the model series is driven by an American customer.
Mercedes sold in august 33,012 units from the compact family (A,B, CLA and GLA Class).
But also the sales of rear wheel drive and SUV models were successful.
Mercedes sold 172,703 E-Class saloon and estate in the first 8 months (+20,8%), meanwhile the E-Class Coupe and Cabrio grows with 17.5%.
The strong sales in August in the luxury segment are mainly due to the new S-Class saloon which found 8,080 customers in August (+120.6%). Since the beginning of the year, Mercedes has sold 65,890 S-Class saloons, posting an increase of +101, 8%. China, USA and Germany are the most important markets for the flagship of the brand. The new S-Class coupe will be launched in Europe in mid September and it will most likely contribute to additional growth for luxury segment of S-Class.
Last but not least, the SUVs are continuing their successful path. 221, 327 units (GLA, GL, GLK, ML, G-Class) have been sold since the beginning of the year, setting a new all-time high.
A smart fortwo was the chosen car of 5,776 customers in August (+1.2%) despite the fact that the car is close to its model change. The new generation will be launched on November 22, 2014.
