1,300 square metres and 150 new smart models. The mini fleet has been replaced a week before the launch of the real smart. A total of 90 new fortwos and 60 new forfours are deployed in the whole miniature layout.
Knuffingen is one of the oldest and most important towns in Miniatur Wunderland with almost 10.000 inhabitants, with a rather bad reputation for traffic jams and few parking lots.
The new smart fortwo and the new smart forfour are ideally created to fit into any parking space and, what’s more, the new fortwo even has a turning circle of less than eight centimeters.
“We in Knuffingen appreciate all the little things, but we don’t give them special treatment. So please don’t exceed the speed limit in the new smart either,” said Frederik Braun, first mayor of Knuffingen and also co-founder of Wunderland.
The new smart models are also deployed at Knuffingen airport. Customers can now also simply pull up and fly off. What’s more interesting is that customers can return their smart at Knuffingen airport and leave on holiday without worrying about parking charges whilst they’re away .
Miniatur Wunderland is world’s largest model railway and one of the attractions that appeal to tourists, and it is located right on the Elbe, in Hamburg’s Speicherstadt warehouse district. Since the 2001 official opening, more than twelve million visitors have experienced this land of fascinating technology, detailed buildings and precise handiwork. Miniatur Wunderland occupies an area of more than 1300 m2, from Scandinavia to the USA, from the waterfront to high mountains.
The little car is now even smaller. At the end of November the new smart fortwo and forfour will go on sale as high-quality model cars.
Mercedes-Benz is cooperating with the model car specialists Norev and Busch to produce miniature smart models painted in the original colours on a scale of 1:18, 1:43 and 1:87. Furthermore, the miniature smarts feature bright colours and also a wide range of equipment.
