Mercedes delivered more than 1 million cars in the first six months of 2016 (+12.1%), more than ever before in half a year. The main regions – Europe, Asia-Pacific and NAFTA registered new records both in June and in the first six months.
Mercedes set up new sales records in June and in the first six months of 2016. 1,006,619 vehicles were delivered (+12.1%) while in June 188,444 cars were handed over to customers all over the world (+11.1%).
As usual, Mercedes is the first premium carmaker to announce the sales results and we suppose that Mercedes will lead the premium segment after first six months of 2016.
With an advance of more than 20,000 cars over BMW in the first six months and a double digit growth rate in June and in the first six months of 2016, it is hard to believe that Mercedes could be beaten by its traditional rivals BMW and Audi, which is even far behind after five months of 2016.
With more than 1 million cars sold in the first six months, Mercedes achieved the best result in half a year in the company’s history. One third of all Mercedes passenger cars sold are in the SUV segment.
Mercedes sold 444,581 vehicles in Europe in the first six months (+13.3%) from which 86,657 units (+13.7%) in June. The local market Germany recorded a recovery with 142,756 cars sold in the half of the year (+7.8%).
In the Asia-Pacific region, Mercedes delivered 63,754 vehicles to customers in June (+16.4%), and actually achieved more than 20% growth in unit sales in the first half of the year. In China, the biggest market for Mercedes-Benz, growth in the first half of the year was especially strong with sales of 219,999 units (+33.1%).
In the NAFTA region, the result is also positive with 189,512 (+0.1%) cars delivered in the first half of the year. Mercedes was once again the market leader among the premium manufacturers in Canada last month.
Mercedes sales by model
More than 30% of the customers choose a model from the compact range. 319,626 units A-Class, B-Class, CLA, GLA and CLA Shooting Brake were delivered to customers in the first half of the year (+18.6%) from which 59,423 in June (+9.3%).
The SUVs from Mercedes registered the biggest growth with 339,541 units (+46.1% !!!) sold in the first six months. Only in June were sold 62,175 units (+43.0%). And the first GLC Coupe units left the assembly lines in Bremen since June.
More than 200,000 units of C-Class saloon and estate have been already sold this year. The long wheelbase C-Class saloon offered exclusively on the Chinese market has a significant contribution to the success of C-Class family and achieved a new all time record in June and in the first half of the year. The C-Class family has now strengthened with the addition of the C-Class Cabrio, available now in Europe.
Smart brand is also on a good trend with 73,510 cars delivered in the first six months, a new record (+18.3%). The good result is posititvely influenced by the new records achieved in Asia-Pacific region.
