Mercedes-Benz is lowering the entering threshold for C-Class territory with the addition of a new entry-level model.
The most accessible Mercedes-Benz C-Class will now cost 31,683.75 (the price for the German market, including 19% VAT), down more than 2,000 euros from C 180’s price of 33,706.75. The entry version will be called C 160 and will come with a 1.6 turbo engine developing 129 hp and 210 Nm.
The C 160 Saloon is capable of accelerating from zero to 100 km/h in 9.6 seconds (9.9 seconds for the Estate ). The Saloon, with its six-speed manual transmission, makes do with just 5.2 litres of premium fuel over 100 kilometres (5.4 litres for the Estate).
The next big news in the C-Class range is the addition of the 4MATIC four wheel drive system for two of the more accessible models – the C 200 and C 220 d. Thus, the C 200 4MATIC will only cost 41,441.75 euros.
The best performing four cylinder engine model is now the C 300 with its 245 hp with a displacement of just 1,991 cubic centimeters. The 0-100 km/h time is 5.9 seconds, but the C300 still manages to be very frugal with a fuel consumption of just 6.3 liters over 100 kilometers.
If that isn’t enough, there’s always more power available with the C 450 AMG which now also gets the 4MATIC four wheel drive system. From a displacement of 2996 cubic centimetres, it delivers an output of 367 hp and a torque of up to 520 newton metres. The sprint to 100 km/h in this case takes just 4.9 seconds. Its combined fuel consumption stands at 7.6 litres per 100 kilometres.
Apart from these five new models, the top of the line Mercedes-AMG C 63 in its two guises – the Mercedes-AMG C 63 and Mercedes-AMG C 63 S – is also officially available. These two high-performance rear-wheel-drive sports cars are powered by a 4.0 litre V8 biturbo engine: the output is 476 hp in the C 63 and 510 hp in the C 63 S, which makes the V8 model the most powerful car in its segment.
