The engineers must have gone crazy when they created this! The Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain 4×4² is an insane machinery. The business sedan now seems so far behind!
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain 4×4² is the private project of Jürgen Eberle, one of the company’s engineers. He installed portal axles on the All-Terrain model, together with a 1.5-inch suspension lift and gigantic tires. And set it free into the off-road.
To manage in the wild terrain of mud and rocks, the vehicle also received an insane ground clearance, now standing 40 centimeters from the ground. Not even the Mercedes G500 4×4² goes as high.
The vehicle built by Jurgen Eberle is powered by a 3.6-liter V6 unit, which might not make it under the hood of the series production model, if it ever sees the light of day. Instead, the power unit might make room for the company’s new M256 3.0-liter inline six, producing 435 HP.
Surprisingly, the car has no lock differentials, nor a low-range gearbox. But will the gigantic 30-inch tires make up for the lack of them? Well, Matthias Malmedie goes for a ride in the E-Class All-Terrain 4×4² to see whether this car makes sense in a market that is mad after SUVs. Shall we keep him company?
