The new king of premium family vans, Mercedes-Benz V-Class , is bringing some novelty to 2014 Paris Motorshow: the all-wheel drive variant, which is going to make the car safer and more controllable, espacialy when the road surface is subject to loss of adherence. In fact, the new option 4MATIC will be available in Europe starting from December, just in time for winter and slippery roads.
The first engine to receive the all-wheel drive will be the most powerful diesel, the 2.2 liters BlueTEC that develops 190 PS and a maximum torque of 440 Nm (324 lb-ft) – that means that the first all-wheel drive V-Class will be the V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC “Long”. The AWD system splits the torque in a 45:55 ratio front/rear but when a wheel loses traction the 4ETS system brakes it in fractions of seconds and redistributes power to other wheels, that have better adherence.
The fuel economy of the new V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC variant is rated to 6,7 l/100 km (35,1 MPG), which is 0,7 l/100 km more than the normal V 250 BlueTEC. Also, the CO2 emissions (177 g/km) are only 20 g/km more, while performance is not affected by the 4MATIC system. Mercedes-Benz V 250 BlueTEC 4MATIC has a starting price of €53,109 (Germany), but soon the 4MATIC system will be available for other V-Class variants.
