V8 Nostalgia. Manhart Does the Trick With the Former Mercedes-AMG C 63

Long gone is the V8 M177 power plant from under the hood of the Mercedes-AMG C 63. The new performance sedan got the 2.0-liter turbo engine instead, with a hybrid setup that makes it faster and stronger than ever before. But it seems that Manhart is still longing for that V8.

The German tuner is making the V8-powered C 63 go down with a bang. They now call it the CR 700 Last Edition and the name says it all. Well, almost all, because it’s not 700 PS (690 HP) they put in, but a bit more. An upgrade on the turbochargers and intercoolers took it all the way to 712 PS (702 HP) and 920 Nm (678 lb-ft) from the standard 510 PS (503 HP) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque.

This is how it ends up running from 100 km/h (62 mph) to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 5.5 seconds. No word on the figures regarding the 0 to 100 km/h sprint though. That’s probably for the future owners to see for themselves.

Manhart made some tweaks and tricks on the exhaust system as well, making room for the Race and Sport downpipe, available for markets outside Germany only. Ja, ja, ja, the Germans are stricter in terms of noise regulations. The braking system remains stock, but the tuner can provide customized options to customers.

The car wears a black livery with gold stripes that split the hood, roof, and boot lid into two asymmetrical pieces. The gold stripes match the gold black calipers of the wheels that sport a dark matte finish. The same finish shows up on the radiator grille with vertical slats. The chrome details have vanished and gold ones showed up instead.

If it might look familiar, you’re not totally wrong. Back in December 2021, Manhart used the exact same “make up” for the estate version.

We totally understand the nostalgia. Despite the extra power of the new hybrid Mercedes-AMG C 63, the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine can’t even come close to the soundtrack of the V8.
