The current S-Class model was a game changer when it first came out more than a year ago and the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class promises to do the same thing when it will reach us in less than one year from now.
As expected, the new E-Class will carry over most of the new tech introduced on the S-Class or the CLS facelift, but it will update some of it and also bring its own new features. The focus for the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class will be on preventing traffic incidents and paving the way for autonomous driving.
As we’ve come to know, this means a plethora of driving assistance systems that will enable the new E-Class to cruise virtually unaided on motorways. Safety is also in high regard, Mercedes-Benz having a two-stage approach for this matter: first, by avoiding the accident altogether and then, if nothing can be done to prevent it, by offering the passengers the best protection ever.
The first part is covered by a range of sensors that scan the traffic and slam the brakes when necessary, while the second comprises of active seatbelts with integrated airbags and a neat feature for side impacts (PRE-SAFE Impulse Side) where the seat occupant is thrown towards the middle of the car by means of a quickly inflatable cushion.
The new E-Class will feature an improved version of the Mercedes-Benz MULTIBEAM LED which allows the driver to keep the high beam active at all times thanks to an 84 LED matrix which can modulate the light around oncoming traffic.
Another cool feature concerning the lighting of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class are the dimming taillights. The red and yellow LEDs at the back of the car will work at a brightness level of 80% during the night in order to reduce glare for the other drivers. When the car is stopped, they dimm even further to 60%.
The Remote Parking Pilot allows the driver to get out of the car and park their Mercedes-Benz E-Class via a mobile phone app. It also works the other way around, when you return to your neatly parked car only to find someone has pulled up inches away from the driver’s door. Not a problem: pull out your mobile phone, fire up the app and you can navigate the E-Class out of that tight situation remotely.
I’m sure this is just the tip of the iceberg, with a lot more to be discovered when the E-Class will be officially unveiled sometime early next year. Until then, enjoy this clip:
