A G-Class from Mansory actually worth considering

Mansory is asking 770.000 euros for this modified G-Class so, no, I’m kidding, it’s not worth considering, not even close. But it does look quite good, for a change.

For that kind of money, you can get yourself a Mercedes-Benz G 500 4×4 “times two” and paint it with all the camouflage you want and still have some left to spare for a supercar. Not only that, but you’d end up with a far better off-road vehicle than this Mansory G-Class Sahara Edition.

I said I liked the way the Sahara Edition looks and I meant it. Don’t get me started on the wheels, though – they look as if it was brought there on a platform since it wouldn’t be able to cross even the mildest rough terrain on its own without puncturing a tire every ten meters or so.

Apart from the wheels, the rest of what once was a G 63 AMG is looking good: Mansory added a wide carbon-fiber body kit making the car 80 mm wider than before, a very non-discreet lights cluster on top of the roof (because the desert is dark and full of terrors) and those huge 22 inches alloy wheels who ruin the whole militaristic look of the car.

On the inside, the G-Class Sahara Edition sports the same army theme with greenish camouflage patterned light leather and Alcantara covering all the surfaces. There’s also an eagle motif with an eagle’s head embroidered on the headrests and a set of wings on the back of each seat. I don’t know if it was desired, but sitting there might make you look more like an angel than an actual eagle…

All the interior modifications are hand made and this is partly the explanation of that ridiculous price tag; the other part involves the engine bay and what can be found in it. The twin-turbo 5.5 liter V8 engine of the standard G 63 AMG develops 536 hp and 760 Nm. With the addition of new connecting rods, pistons, bearings, cylinder head, crankshaft as well as a custom stainless steel exhaust system, the Sahara Edition G-Class is now capable of dishing out 828 hp and an electronically limited maximum torque of 1,000 Nm. That is impressive even by Brabus standards… Just like the price is impressive even by Dubai standards.
