Brabus lift the performance level of the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S to the next level. Brabus B40S-650 deliver 650 HP and 820 Nm instead of 510 HP and 650 Nm from the 4.0 liter bi-turbo V8. Auto Bild magazine drove the fastest ever C-Class limo with the occasion of Continental Tuning day organized by Auto Bild Sport Cars.
The engineers from Brabus mounted two bigger turbochargers in the inner V of the 4.0-liter V8 biturbo. As a result, the tuning specialist installed new downpipes and an additional control unit which sits directly behind the radiator. Why an additional control unit? Because a complete reconstruction of electronics would be too costly.
The interior is stock and there was no reason to change the nice and elegant AMG interior. The leather is high quality, the driving position is top class and all the buttons are where you expect them. This includes also the button for controlling the exhaust system. But the sound is totally different when you push this button and you will hear the best sound you ever heard which is like a deep rumbling.
The 4.0 liter V8 bi-turbo with red cylinders head covers has practically no delay at start but the seven speed automatic gearbox response in kickdown not so nimble as a dual clutch transmission. But you do not really feel a delay because the full torque of 820 Nm is already available from 1,750 rpm. And this is much, much more than needed. The 265 Continental tires on the rear axle succeed to maintain the car on the right track helped by the a good management of the electronics. 320 km/h is the maximum speed and what is happening in the engine compartment is tremendous.
The ceramic brakes from AMG keeps under the control the extra power of 140 HP while the adaptive suspension has new springs from Brabus while the characteristics remain the same like in the series production car. With AMG suspension settings, the handling is agile but B40S-650 is not really a car for the track with its around 1.7 tons. It is more an alternative to Brabus S-Class.
Brabus B40S-650 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.7 sec compared with 4.0 sec for the C 63 S while the maximum speed is 320 km/h compared with 250 km/h electronicaslly limited for the C 63 S.
The test car driven by Auto Bild cost 157,669 euro from which 14,161 costs the modification of the engine, 5,831 euro the new exhaust system and 18,510 euro the exterior kit and the Brabus wheels.
