The extended bed X-Class is coming soon. Auto-motor-und-sport reveals that prototypes with extended loading area have been sighted during winter tests. This might as well be a hint that the X-Class is finally ready to fight the big American pick-up trucks.
The first-ever officially launched Mercedes-Benz pick-up saw the light of day in the summer of 2017. The vehicle is though a Nissan Navara wrapped in Mercedes clothes. The wheelbase of 3.15 meters, the loading area of only 1.59 meters and its total length of 5.34 meters are just as those of the Japanese sibling, but way too small for the American market. The super popular Ford F-150 comes with a load bed of up to 2.44 meters long.

But Mercedes is willing to change facts, so a caravan of pick up trucks with the star logo and with an extended bed were spotted testing in Scandinavia. The cargo area seems to get 30 extra centimeters and still remain short for the American standards. The change should also bring a shift in the length of the wheelbase.
The convoy spied during winter testing is made up of the 350 d variants, powered by a 3.0-liter V6 turbo engine, producing 258 horsepower and 550 Newton meters of torque, coupled to a seven-speed automatic transmission. It is a variant that Mercedesblog has recently tested. The market launch of the extended bed X-Class should happen somewhere around the beginning of 2020, the new model coming as an addition to the range as a mid-life solution.
