The first new generation Unimog was handed to Sasol Germany GmbH in Brunsbüttel, at Innotrans, in Berlin, world’s leading trade fair for the rail transport sector. Sasol has been using the Unimog for the last 10 years and the new 423 Unimog will manoeuvre tank wagons.
Sasol, a manufacturer of fatty alcohols and their derivates sends a positive signal with this investment, and with the Unimog, the on-road emissions standards are extended from the road to the rails. The Euro VI engines for trucks are reducing the emissions by up to 90 percent in comparison with Euro V. Compared to 1990, emissions from commercial vehicles have been lowered by between 88 percent and 98 percent. The increased engine efficiency enables considerable fuel savings which improves furthermore the environmental balance. The new generation of Unimog was presented in 2013 and it has Euro VI engines with an output of 170 kW (231 HP).

The Unimog U 423 has a lane keeping system developed by Zagro, a body manufacturer, which ensures safe lane keeping and conforms to the latest safety regulations. Furthermore, the Unimog benefits from a huge towing capacity with a comparatively low vehicle weight, which is achieved thank to the Unimog’s friction coefficient between rubber and steel.

The road-rail Unimog conforms to high truck standards with the further enhanced “clear-view cab”.
