The all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class has just hit the German autobahn. How does the saloon actually accelerate in a no speed-limit area of the motorway?
The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class was revealed as the world’s most intelligent saloon. Benefitting from the presence of high technology, futuristic assistance systems and comfort specific to the range, the model has already hit showrooms worldwide. Now the Dutch vloggers of Auto Top NL take it for a ride along the autobahn in Germany.
The variant that undergoes the acceleration test is the S500. It comes with the 3.0-liter 6-cylinder turbo engine that develops 435 horsepower and 520 Newton meters. The EQ Boost mild hybrid system adds 22 horsepower. It is the powertrain that replaces the V8 engine in order for the model range to comply with the ever stricter emission standards imposed across the world.
How does the Mercedes-Benz S-Class behave along the no-speed-limit autobahn?
On paper, the W223 displays its typical sports car figures. It runs from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 5.1 seconds, despite its massive proportions.
With these figures in mind, the driver gets behind the wheel of the elegant black saloon and presses the engine start button. He engages drive and off he goes. The new steering wheel, the digital instrument cluster mounted right on the steering column and the glossy touchscreen in the center console make the high-tech classy atmosphere.
The speedometer easily goes as high as 250 km/h. Meanwhile, the saloon makes its way along the highway with barely any wind or tire noise bothering the onboard silence. Once again, the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class provides a quiet ride.
Mercedes is currently working on upper variants. Therefore, a Mercedes-AMG S73 is in the cards, designed to play the part of the future top of the range variant, thus dethroning the S63. The S73 should come though with an output of approximately 800 horsepower.
The premium car maker has already dismissed the Coupe and Cabriolet variants, leaving space for the AMG GT family models.
