YouTube channel woodworking art presents a Mercedes 300 SL model that is made entirely of wood. What is spectacular about it is the fact that it spots the famous gullwing doors, that are functional.
There are already numerous scale models of the Mercedes 300 SL, one of the most famous sports models that Mercedes has ever built. Back in 1999, the automobile was awarded the title of the sports car of the century.
And a few days ago, unofficial sources reported that one of the two Mercedes 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupes was sold for a record $136.8 million, making it the most expensive model ever sold at auction.
But really impressive is this Mercedes 300 SL model that is made entirely of wood and presented on the YouTube channel woodworking art.
No details are given about the scale at which the model has been made but it appears to be close to 1:8. Everything is handmade in it, as you can see in the video below and the craftsmanship of the craftsman simply leaves you speechless. The wood from which the model is made is a hard essence and from the photos, it appears to be oak.
There are also the famous gullwing doors hinged to the body and working just like in real life. Both the dashboard and the inline 6-cylinder engine are reproduced to look just like the original and are very visible because the engine hood and the doors are fully functional. The trunk lid also lifts up to access the spare tire.
The Mercedes logo wheels are faithfully reproduced as well as the side air intake, an important feature of the Mercedes 300 SL.
Woodworking art has made numerous wooden models. Among the most recent are the Mercedes G 500, Mercedes GLS 450 4Matic, Tesla Cybertruck, Ferrari SF90 Spyder, Ford Mustang GT 5.0, new generation BMW X6 and VW Bulli.
