A Mercedes-Benz 600, that the Beatles lead guitarist George Harrison once owned, is now for sale. The car is in pristine condition.

The Mercedes-Benz 600 first hit the road in 1963. It soon became one of the most desired automobile. Elegant, exclusive, spacious. It breathed opulence. And it simply had everything that state leaders and VIPs from around the world could ever want in a car.

It was the successor of the similarly famous 300D ‘Adenauer”. Back then, it was the most expensive and technologically advanced model of the premium car company. Mercedes stopped at nothing to develop it, made no savings in building it. It was way ahead of its time with all of its hydraulic elements such as windows, seats, rear reclining backrest and trunk. It also came with a self-leveling, adjustable air suspension. That was actually the system that previewed the current Active Body Control technology.

The car came with a 6.3-liter V8 engine and a complex Bosch mechanical fuel injection. It delivered 250 horsepower via a 4-speed automatic transmission. Despite its glorious proportions, it was capable of reaching a top speed of 208 km/h (130 km/h).

George Harrison ordered his Mercedes-Benz 600 in white

The cabin of the Mercedes-Benz 600 displays elegance just as much as the exterior. Leather, metal, wood pamper the occupants. And one of them was George Harrison, lead guitarist of The Beatles. In 1967, he chose a short wheelbase unit, one of the only 2,190 ever built.

He ordered it with a white paint and black leather interior with walnut inserts in the dashboard. He was easy to recognize when he traveled around. The registration plates read “OLA 600E”, making it easy for the paparazzi of the time to identify it.

The model underwent a major restoration that was completed in March 2021. It now goes under hammer through CollectingCars platform.
