The “Highway Hero“ show truck: Mercedes-Benz Actros 2551 – Winner of the “Nordic Trophy 2014” as IAA show stopper.
In the 35-year history of design competition “Nordic Trophy”, held in Sweden, in 2014, for the first time Actros was able to win. “Nordic Trophy” is probably the toughest competition dedicated to custom heavy trucks from Europe. Year after year, hundreds of trucks were there, so the level of quality is very high, we could compare it with the European Champions League.
The Finnish Mika Auvinen, who won this year, with the “Highway Hero“ show truck, is a veteran of the Nordic Trophy. This summer he has given the most powerful 12.8 l Actros 2551 6×2 a completely new outfit, inside and out. Like in the previous editions, he started from a combination of silo body truck and trailer. In the secret language of trucks, probably that green Actros said „Tschüss!“ to all Scanias and Volvos.
At the entrance of the Daimler World of Commercial Vehicles from 65th IAA Commercial Vehicles, visitors could only see the truck, due to exceeding the maximum permissible length by a significant margin. The paintwork of the truck and the trailer alone took more than 1,200 hours to complete. Beside this, there were many hours of cutting, bending, welding and polishing.
When the owner of the multi-award-winning show truck revs up the engine, the fat exhaust stacks belt out a mighty sound. Even on the inside, nothing remains the same.
So, it wasn’t a surprise when throngs of people congregate right at the main entrance to the exhibition hall. Just take a look at a few pictures. It may be helpful for your next project.
