With a 40 mm higher ground clearance, all-wheel drive and two off-road driving modes, the Mercedes C-Class All-Terrain is a more dynamic alternative to the GLC.

Mercedes launches a rival to the Audi A4 Allroad Quattro encouraged by the success it had with the Mercedes E-Class All Terrain launched in the spring of 2017 and revised last year. Unlike the E-Class All Terrain which has an adjustable air suspension, the Mercedes C-Class All-Terrain only comes with the adaptive suspension from the C-Class which is 40 mm higher than the C-Class Estate.

Due to wheel arch linings, the width was increased by 21 mm to 1841 mm. Also, the height is 1494 mm due to the larger ground clearance. The volume of the trunk is identical to that of the normal version with a volume between 490 and 1510 liters while the 40/20/40 split backrest and the electrically operated tailgate are standard.

All versions are based on the Avantgarde line which means that the waistline trim, side window surrounds and roof railings are finished in polished aluminum. The trim on the B-pillars and the bars on the rear side windows are in high-gloss black. Wheels with sizes between 17 and 19 inches are available. The interior is also based on the Avantgarde line and you can choose between three color concepts: black, macchiato beige/black and sienna brown/black.

Mercedes C-Class All Terrain takes over the dashboard from C-Class with the difference that the instrument panel features a silver chrome clasp and matt diamond silkscreen trim element (other finishes are available). There is also a specific Off-road menu like in case of the GLE that presents specific information such as incline, decline and steering angle.

In addition to driving modes from C-Class – Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual – Mercedes C-Class All-Terrain also has two Off-road modes: Offroad for dirt roads, gravel or sand and Offroad + with DSR for heavier and steeper terrain.

High Performance LED headlights are standard and can be ordered Digital Light which include a special off-road function. It works up to 50 km/h and allows a wider illumination so that the driver can see the obstacles in time.

Mercedes C-Class All Terrain is equipped with 4-cylinder petrol engines M 254 and diesel OM 654 M (Modified, increased displacement from 1950 to 1992 cc, increased injection pressure from 2500 to 2700 bar). All engines have a 48V mild hybrid system with an integrated starter generator that delivers up to 15 kW and 200 Nm.

The Mercedes C-Class All Terrain will be presented at the Munich Motor Show (September 7-12) and will be available from December. As it will not have smaller  1.5 liter engines from C-Class, we estimate that prices will start at over 50,000 euros.
