Despite a complicated economic climate, Mercedes sales exceeded 500,000 units in the first quarter of 2022.

The semiconductor crisis, the coronavirus epidemic that has returned to some regions of the world and the war unleashed by Russia in Ukraine on 24 February that created problems in the delivery of certain raw materials such as aluminium have created a complicated economic climate especially in Europe.

In these conditions the result achieved by Mercedes in the first quarter of 2022 can be considered a success even though sales were down 15% compared to the same period in 2021. In the first quarter of 2022, Mercedes sold 501,600 units (-15%). Sales are down worldwide: Europe 15% (Germany down only 7%), Asia 12% (China down 14%), North America 20% (US down 20%). Sales in China in particular have been affected by the return of the coronavirus pandemic.

Of the 501,600 units sold, 67,800 were electrified models, of which 21,900 were pure electric models. Thus, sales of electrified models increased by 37% while sales of electric models increased by 210%. It is expected that the debut of the Mercedes EQE and EQS SUV will accelerate sales of pure electric models.

The best-selling model is the Mercedes GLC with 100,400 units. The result is all the more deserving as this model is at the end of its lifecycle, with the new generation to be presented in June 2022.
Mercedes-Maybach sales also increased by 161% and the S-Class limousine by 67%.
