Bonhams auction house is auctioning Michael Schumacher’s former company car, a Mercedes C 63 AMG T-Model, on 3 February 2022 at the Grand Palais in Paris.
Michael Schumacher has always been close to Mercedes. In 1990 he joined the Mercedes junior racing program in the World Sportscar Championship with Karl Wendlinger and Hein Harald Frentzen.
He had a clause that if Mercedes entered F1, Schumacher would compete for Mercedes. But in 1992, when the Sauber team, with the support of Mercedes, wanted to activate this clause, Schumacher wanted to stay at Benetton and chose well because he won two world titles in 1994 and 1995.
In 1996 he came to Ferrari where he competed until 2006 and won 5 more world titles. During all this time he could not drive Mercedes cars being under contract with Ferrari.
But on December 23, 2009, Schumacher announced his return to F1 with the newly formed Mercedes team. On this occasion, Mercedes provided the seven-time world champion with a new company car – a Mercedes C 63 AMG T-Model equipped with the large 6.2-liter V8 AMG normal aspirated engine which develops 457 HP and 600 Nm. The car will be put up for auction on February 3 by the Bonhams auction house at an auction to be held at the Grand Palais, Paris, on February 3, 2022.
The car was registered under the name Mercedes-Benz AG in January 2010 in Schlieren, Switzerland, where Schumacher lived, and was owned by Schumacher until July 28, 2010.
Then, the car was bought by a Swiss citizen who owned it from 2011 to 2015, when the mileage reached 146,278 km. In 2015, the car was bought by a German engineer who drove only 1000 km in 3 years. In 2018, the car ended up in the hands of the current owner who states that he drove it only in the summer months and performed all the services at the Mercedes-Benz official dealer. It has 152,000 km on board now.
Finished in black with matching leather interior, Mercedes C 63 AMG T-Model is in a very good condition and passed the TUV technical inspection in March 2021 without any problems.The car will be fitted with a fresh set of tires and checked by a Mercedes-Benz dealer before the sale. The estimated sale amount is between 50,000 and 100,000 euros.
Unfortunately, Schumacher’s return to Mercedes came too late. The former world champion won only one third place in three years, but this was not necessarily because Schumacher was getting older, but because the Mercedes cars of that time were quite weak. The Mercedes team only recovered in 2014 two years after Schumacher retired at 43 in 2012.
