It’s only been a few days since Mercedes-Benz officially announced the new AMG Sport range of models and more details about the future vehicles have already started to surface. First up is the C 450 AMG Sport.
According to Auto Motor und Sport, Mercedes-Benz will use the upcoming North American International Auto Show to present the first two models of this new line of products, the C 450 AMG Sport and the GLE 450 AMG Sport.
In case you’re wondering what sort of model the GLE is, then you’ve clearly not read about the new naming algorithm Mercedes-Benz has introduced for their cars. You can read the article here or, if you’re not that curious, I’ll just tell you it’s the old ML Class and get on with it.
The same German media outlet says that the C 450 AMG Sport will use a 3.0 V6 engine that develops 367 hp. This places the AMG Sport version closer to C 400’s 323 hp than to C 63 AMG’s 476 hp. A bit of a disappointment, I’m sure you’ll agree, but still, more is more even if it’s just 34 hp.
Besides, never forget that these are not official figures.
And also bear in mind that power isn’t everything or, as somebody once said, power without control is nothing. That’s why the AMG Sport line will employ special chassis components, upgraded brakes, modified suspension and even a standard all-wheel drive in some countries.
At the end of the day, the AMG Sport line might actually prove to be the more rational choice for those who like sporty cars, but are not willing to sacrifice every day driveability and comfort. You won’t see them at track days, but you will see them drive very fast on the autobahn.
We’ll just have to wait and, as this new range will undoubtedly be made up of good vehicles, it will probably all come down to one thing: pricing.
