Mercedes announced at CES 2023 that it will build its network of high-power charging stations. The first stations will be built in North America in 2023, and the network will then expand to Europe and China.

Speaking at CES 2023, Markus Schafer, Chief Technology Officer at Mercedes, announced that Mercedes will build its network of high-power electric charging stations starting in 2023 in North America. Later, the network will expand to Europe and China.

Mercedes wants to complete the charging station network in North America by 2027. The network will include more than 400 hubs with over 2,500 charging points. The charging stations will be placed at strategic locations: near highways at regular distances and in metropolitan areas.

Customers will also benefit from numerous facilities near the charging stations, such as food outlets and restrooms. For safety, all stations will be equipped with surveillance cameras and will be covered to protect against the weather. Depending on their location, a hub will have between 4 and 12 charging points and, in some areas, even 30 charging points with a power of up to 350 kW.

Charging stations will be available for all brands, but Mercedes customers will have certain facilities, such as reserving a charging point. Mercedes intends to expand the network of charging stations to more than 10,000 charging points by 2030 in addition to the existing ones.

Mercedes promises that the energy supplied to these stations will come from renewable sources. The stations will be built in cooperation with MN8 Energy and U.S. ChargePoint. MN8 Energy is one of the largest solar energy and battery storage owners and operators in the U.S. U.S. Charging Point owns one of the largest networks of charging stations in the U.S. and Europe, and Mercedes has worked with them before as a backend provider in the U.S. for Mercedes Charge.

In the U.S., there were 56,256 charging stations with 147,400 charging points as of November 8, 2022.
