The two smallest members of the Daimler family, smart fortwo and smart forfour, are set to receive a host of new features and funky colors starting the 3rd of July.
Funky colors? Did they really need that? They seemed funky enough to me… I guess once you go the funky way, there’s always room for more and I’m sure the new smart models which will become available in early July (and will be delivered starting September) will confirm it with honors.
But the new colors are just the tip of the iceberg, more interesting things happening on the inside. The 2016 model year will see the introduction of MirrorLink® as part of the smart Media-System. In case you’ve been living under a rock and don’t know what MirrorLink® is, you’ll be glad to know it’s a system that enables compatible smartphones to be integrated into the vehicle’s infotainment system and share the content of the smartphone on the car’s central display.
In other words, your smart’s display becomes one with that of your phone’s.
MirrorLink® currently supports the apps MIROAMER® (internet radio and music entertainment), Audioteka® (talking books) and COYOTE® (community-based real-time traffic information). Since MirrorLink® is a standard developed by a consortium of vehicle and IT companies, be sure that a lot more apps will follow shortly.
Some of the other new features for the two small giants include black wheel arch linings and a lowered chassis (by 10 mm), the smart Audio-System now available also separately, rear side windows and rear window tinted for smart forfour or a tablet holder for the Rear Seat Entertainment System designed specifically for an iPad Air.
