Cars are becoming connected and the complexity of vehicle technology means that car companies need to take into consideration more factors when it comes to rescuing the passengers if an accident takes place. Now, Mercedes-Benz vans are equipped with rescue stickers incorporating a QR code, providing valuable support for rescue services.

A digital rescue card is opened when scanning the QR code with a suitable code reader available on every smartphone or tablet computer. Of course, it will be required a internet connection on the smartphone.

The rescue card will show the location of vehicle components like the fuel tanks, airbags or the electric cables. Thanks to this information, a fast and safe rescue is possible which will help minimize the risk for passengers and for the emergency teams helping.

The Stuttgart-based company is the first manufacturer in the world to equip all the new vans with this rescue sticker.  More importantly, the location of the rescue sticker is standardized for each Mercedes-Benz van, so the rescue teams can reach it easily.

If there is no internet connection available, the rescue services can also make use of an application specially developed for this purpose. This application allows the rescue cards to be called up offline from the device memory, which can be updated constantly with new rescue cards only by touching a button. It will be available free of charge from 2015.
