Formula 1 has started a race to support diversity and fight against racism. Following the launch of the #WeRaceAsOne campaign, there is yet another proof that discrimination has no place in the sport. The Mercedes-AMG GT R Safety Car wears rainbow visuals.
The car that is always in the lead whenever an accident occurs or when the weather conditions require its presence, is now getting a new look. The Mercedes-AMG GT R Safety Car received rainbow key visuals on the flanks and on the bonnet as a sign of the commitment for diversity and inclusion.
The #WeRaceAsOne campaign logo also shows up on all Formula 1 cars and in various places around Red Bull Ring. It is there to show that the sport brings communities and races together, regardless of their origin and skin color.
It is the first time the FIA Formula 1 Safety Car gets any other livery than the usual silver and black décor. Nothing changes onboard though. Bernd Maylander remains the driver of the automobile just like in any race for the past 20 years.
Formula 1 now returns following the coronavirus outbreak, with a display of unity against racism and with the will to address inequality. No fans, nor guests are allowed in the area. But the organization will show the appreciation for the support they have been receiving. The “Drive Safely” message on the bonnet of the Safety Car.
The Mercedes-AMG GT R Safety Car in figures
The Mercedes-AMG GT R comes with a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine that develops 585 horsepower. The model features sophisticated active aerodynamics together with an intelligent lightweight construction.
It is capable of accelerating from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds. Its top speed is 318 km/h. It is the fastest Safety Car in F1 ever.
The Mercedes-AMG C63 C Estate, playing the part of the official F1 Medical Car, will keep the GT R company this season as well.
