The Mercedes-AMG GT 73 is on its way. It will come as a plug-in hybrid variant and comfortably find its way to the top of the AMG GT range. The prototype has been caught testing in Northern Europe.

The upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT 73 Plug-in Hybrid will be the most potent variant of the AMG GT range. It will be powered by the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and by an electric motor. The system is expected to deliver beyond 800 horsepower and make the car run from a standstill to 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than three seconds, which makes it more potent and faster than the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S variant.

When put next to the its AMG GT 63 sibling, the differences are hard to spot. The large Panamericana radiator grille with vertical slats and the huge air intakes look just the same. The rear bumper though seems slightly redesigned to fit the charging port, positioned right below the left taillamp. It would be the only spot since the port is missing in the front or rear wing, where most plug-in hybrids have theirs.

At the end of last year, Mercedes-AMG released a teaser video showing what it was believed to be a GT 73 prototype driving away from the camera. The model will come to rival the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo.

The upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT 73 Plug-In Hybrid is expected to be revealed before the end of the year.
