The Mercedes X-Class pickup truck is long gone, but you can still get a pickup truck. No, an old one, but a brand-new one, converted especially for you. The new Brabus G800 Pickup XLP.
Mercedes-Benz kept the Nissan Navara-based X-Class in production for less than three years. Low demand made the executives decide to retire it. It was too expensive and not exactly a premium Benz, since it came with the Nissan platform and engines.
In 2017, Mercedes tried their luck with the G 650 Landaulet. But only 99 of those rolled off the assembly line in Magna Steyr, Austria. The premium sports car make wanted to offer an exclusive model, a true collectors’ car.
The Brabus G800 Pickup XLP is a former Mercedes-AMG G63 with the Lenson designation on the front fenders and C-pillars, together with the “We move the limits” logo. The vehicle is the star of one of the latest vlogs on the MercBenzKing YouTube channel.
The bed hosts the usually-cased spare wheel and two 20-liter gasoline tanks. The bed doesn’t open vertically, like the one of typical pickups, but horizontally, similar to the G-Class rear door, also keeping the usual door handle of the model. The door hinges stay in sight. There is a light bar at the rear of the cabin as well, that turns on when pressing a button on board.
The Brabus G800 Pickup XLP sports offroad Brabus wheels and AMG red brake calipers.
Once the door pops open, there is a classy atmosphere onboard, with beige leather and elegant interior lighting. The IWC Schaffhausen analog clock and the wood inserts enhance the classic touch. Meanwhile, the high-tech displays and systems onboard take it back to the present. There is also an infotainment system for the rear passengers.
The hood shelters the Mercedes-AMG 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that still delivers 585 horsepower. As you must have guessed, there is no Brabus intervention on that one.
The Mercedes pickup truck is €575,630 or $652,401 at the current exchange rate. But such conversions end up with prices as high as €733,000 (over $830,750), almost equaling the amount one would pay for a Mercedes-Maybach G 650 Landaulet.
Those interested to pay that much money to get one of the few Mercedes pickup trucks still available should contact the Stuttgart-based dealership Auto Seredin.
