A British driver bought a Mercedes-AMG A 45 and left the dealership behind the steering wheel of his new car. But the police pulled him over and seized his car an hour later. The reason seems incredible!
The police pulled him over for speed in Heywood, England. “He was driving it like he stole it”, they joked as they posted the story on a social network. Following a brief verification, authorities discovered that the driver had no valid insurance for his new hot hatch.
The driver had bought the car an hour prior to the police signaling him to stop. Unfortunately, he signed no insurance policy for the AMG.
In Britain, authorities have the right to seizing any vehicle that does not have a valid mandatory insurance. They can take a similar action when the registration plates are non-compliant. Furthermore, they can order its expedition to a scrap yard or its resale, regardless of the conditions under which the owner purchased it.
What is the Mercedes-AMG A 45 4MATIC capable of?
The car in question was the previous generation of the Mercedes-AMG A 45. It comes with a four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine that delivers 381 horsepower and a torque of 475 Newton meters. The power unit transfers torque towards all four wheels via a dual clutch 7-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel drive 4MATIC system.
The car takes 4.2 seconds to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h and the car maker electronically limited its top speed at 250 km/h.
As impressive as they figures may be, the new generation easily overcomes them. Revealed last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show, The latest Mercedes-AMG 45 4MATIC+ features the most powerful 4-cylinder engine that ever equipped a series production model. The 2.0-liter turbo unit develops 421 horsepower and a peak torque of 500 Newton meters for the top S variant. They are enough to make the car run from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds, a record acceleration in the compact segment, and hit a top speed of 270 km/h.
