Mercedes teases what is set to be the all-new Mercedes-AMG C63 E Performance. An Instagram post recently uploaded announces that the car will make its debut on September 21. Which is right around the corner.

What is the Mercedes-AMG C63 E Performance? “Next level E Performance,” the teaser claims. Mercedes presented the short video exactly 63 hours before the global debut of the car, indicating that we’re dealing with the performance version of the C. This new version will be available in both sedan and estate body styles.

The car comes to ruin the party of BMW’s M3 and Audi’s RS 4 Avant.

As the “E” lettering in the name hints, it is an electrified performance version of the C-Class. The model will ditch the usual V8, going for a plug-in hybrid setup instead. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a mild-hybrid system and an electric turbo takes the Mercedes-AMG C63 E Performance all the way to 670 PS (661 HP) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. This figures represent much more than the 517 PS (510 HP) and 700 Nm of the former M178 4.0 liter V8 engine.

Mercedes has already confirmed that the M139 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the AMG A 45 has been modified and will develop 470 PS (463 HP) in the new AMG C63 and a 201 PS (198 HP) electric motor will drive the rear axle.

So, despite the reduction in displacement from 4.0 to 2.0 litres, the powertrain of the new AMG C63 will deliver 153 PS (151 HP) more than the new BMW M3/M4 thanks to support from the electric motor.

The all-wheel drive 4MATIC system and a Drift mode are part of the plan. And so is a nine-speed automatic transmission.

A camouflaged version of the C63 E Performance has already shown up at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this summer. Now the video teaser uploaded on Instagram comes to confirm the design cues that we spotted back then. The LED headlights layout carries over the light signature of the standard C-Class. But there is the Turbo lettering on the fenders, while the AMG logo proudly sits on the boot lid. The boot lid also sports a carbon fiber lip.

Performance enthusiasts are counting the hours. The car will break cover tomorrow, September 21, at 4 pm (CEST).
