The Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains plant in Brixworth had the honour of welcoming His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent to its state-of-the-art technology centre.

In case you might ask why would the Duke of Kent want to visit the AMG Powertrains facility in Brixworth, Northamptonshire, here’s your answer.

The roots of Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP) stretch back to 1984 and, since 1995, the team in Brixworth has been responsible for the design and development of every single Mercedes-Benz Formula One engine.

Today, the company is responsible for the design, manufacture and testing of Formula One racing Hybrid Power Units for the Silver Arrow team, MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS, and partner teams.

Moreover, earlier this year, Mercedes AMG HPP was awarded the coveted Dewar Trophy – renowned as the most prestigious award in British automotive engineering – for its Hybrid Formula One Power Unit.

“It has been an honour to welcome HRH The Duke of Kent to Brixworth today. To have received such a visit is testament to the fantastic achievements of each and every team member – not only during this incredible season of Formula One but over the many preceding years also. At Mercedes AMG HPP we pride ourselves on pushing the boundaries of technical innovation and showcasing this in the field of Formula One,” concluded Andy Cowell, Managing Director, Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains.
