Tesla will give Mercedes electric model owners access to its 12,000 charging stations starting in 2024.
Mercedes electric model owners will be able to use Tesla Superchargers in North America from 2024. Mercedes will be the first german manufacturer to implement NACS port in its new models starting in 2025. In the first phase, Mercedes will offer an adapter that allows models with a CCS port to also charge at Tesla Superchargers, and from 2025 Mercedes cars will also have a NACS port.
NACS (North American Charging Standard) stands for Tesla Charging Connector. It allows charging at both AC and DC stations up to 1 MW and is twice as compact and twice as powerful as the CCS charger.
Mercedes’ decision to build NACS ports on its cars comes from the fact that in North America are 60% more NASC charging stations than all CCS stations combined.
This move will allow Mercedes models to charge at the 12,000 Tesla Superchargers in North America. At the same time, Mercedes is building its own network charging stations in North America. By the end of this decade, Mercedes wants to build 400 charging hubs that will include more than 2,500 charging points.
The first Mercedes charging hub in North America will open at the end of 2023 and will be equipped with both CCS and NACS ports. This means that Tesla owners will also be able to charge at Mercedes stations.
Mercedes owners have access via Mercedes me Charge application to over 1.2 million charging points worldwide.
The plan to build 400 charging hubs with more than 2,500 charging stations is part of a global plan by Mercedes to have 2,000 charging hubs with more than 10,000 charging points up and running by the end of the decade in North America, Europe, China, and other major markets.
Mercedes currently sells five electric models in North America: compact SUV EQB, business limousine EQE, EQE SUV, luxury limousine EQS and EQS SUV.
