Little time is left until the official presentation of the Mercedes-Benz CLA and the premium car maker has already concluded the tests with the standard variant. Now the Germans go one step further, testing the Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 and 45.
The Mercedes-Benz CLA, as previewed by the spy photos and by the teasers released by the company, will be presented at the Consumers Electronics Show in Las Vegas this month. The hotter variants though are still in works. The Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 and 45 have been caught testing together in the streets of Germany.
The models will get the design features of the compact siblings, with a new front end, while the rear end might take over the lines from the A-Class Sedan. Little is shown by the prototypes wearing camouflage throughout the public roads’ tests.
The CLA 35 is set to get the powertrain of the new A 35, introduced last fall and presented at the Paris Motor Show in October. Thus, a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, developing 306 horsepower and a peak torque of 400 Nm will find shelter underneath the bonnet. The engine is connected to a 7-speed automatic transmission and makes the car run from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds, to a top speed of 250 km/h.

Meanwhile, the Mercedes-AMG 45 is still testing as well, with its introduction date not yet established. An official teaser video has recently been released by three-pointed star company, ahead of the holidays, to show that the hot hatch is not quite a Christmas carol.
The spy photos reveal that the CLA 45 will get the Panamericana radiator grill and a more aggressive styling. It will also get the company’s 2.0-liter engine, but in a more potent version, delivering in excess of 400 horsepower, connected to a dual clutch automatic transmission.
