Brabus has tuned the new Mercedes-AMG SL and named it after the brand’s founder. Only 25 Brabus 750 Bodo Buschmann Edition 1 of 25 will be built.

Brabus was founded in 1977 by Bodo Buschmann. The German tuner has distinguished itself with many special models but one of them has remained in the heart of the brand’s founder: the 90s Mercedes SL tuned by Brabus. The Brabus 7.3S with V12 engine developed 582 ps (574 hp) and 772 Nm (571 lb-ft).
Bodo Buschmann passed away in 2018 but his company continues to produce special Mercedes models. To pay tribute to its founder, Brabus will produce a new model based on the new Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4Matic. The model is called the Brabus 750 Bodo Buschmann Edition 1 of 25 which means that only 25 examples will be built. Surely Bodo Buschmann would have been proud of this model as it far outperforms its predecessor.
The 4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine has received a performance kit called the Brabus PowerXtra B40S-750 which features two Brabus turbochargers with an enlarged 52 mm (2.04 in) supercharger and a modified core assembly with reinforced axle bearing. Boost pressure has been increased and limited to 1.7 bar.
After the modifications, power increased by 165 ps (162 hp) and torque by 100 Nm (74 lb-ft). Thus, the engine produces 750 ps (740 hp)/6,100 rpm and an impressive 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of maximum torque already at 4,000 rpm. Brabus 750 Bodo Buschmann sprints from 0 to 100 kph (62 mph) in just 3.3 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 315 kph (196 mph).
The Brabus stainless high-performance exhaust system with four carbon and titanium tailpipes features control flaps that change the engine sound from “Coming Home” to “Sport” mode. Power is sent to the wheels via the 9-speed Speedshift automatic gearbox with Automatic and Manual mode.
Compared to the series model, the Brabus Bodo Buschmann has a carbon kit with a front spoiler attached to the lower section of the bumper. The front spoiler has side fins that guide the airflow past the front wings. Also, the side air intakes have a fiber carbon frame. The carbon fiber wheel arches are flared and incorporate the Brabus logo. At the rear is the exposed diffuser also made of carbon fibre.
In the late 1980s, Brabus developed the famous Monoblock II three-spoke wheels. Now, Brabus takes inspiration from that design using new forging technologies. Like the legendary Brabus 7.3S, the Brabus 750 Bodo Buschmann has Monoblock II Platinum Edition three-spoke wheels with 10.5 x 21 in at the front (275/35 ZR21 tires) and 12J x 22 in at the rear (335/25 ZR22 tires). Brabus recommends high-performance tires from Continental or Yokohama.
We tested the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 4Matic and found out how firm the suspension is. Brabus made it even sportier and fitted shorter springs lowering the suspension by 25 mm (0.98 in). But they kept the lift function to be able to raise the suspension when entering an underground garage, for example.
All-black interior
The interior is completely black, as is the exterior colour being in the spirit of Bodo Buschmann. The sun visors and seat side bolsters have the number 77 printed on them to commemorate the year of the founding of Brabus, in 1977.
The upholstery design of the seat surfaces is yet another tribute to Bodo Buschmann. He favored this particular ultraprecise square quilting, which in this roadster also continues on the armrests of the center console. High-gloss carbon elements on the steering wheel, center console, and doors represent a sporty complement to the black leather. The hi-tech composite material is also used for the pedal pads and the scuff plates with the backlit Brabus logo, which changes colors in sync with the ambient lighting.
Brabus has not announced the price, but it will most likely double compared to the series model. 25 customers only will be able to enjoy this exclusive model.
